If the recent warm weather has you itching to get outside, we have the perfect reason: our annual round of spring trout stockings!  Hatchery trucks have been out stocking catchable sized rainbow trout in many Nebraska locations this month and we have additional locations coming up, including this Saturday's stocking bonanza.

Don't sneak off fishing by yourself either; trout fishing is a great family activity.  Trout are easy to catch on a variety of baits, making them good for beginning anglers. Bait options include marshmallows, corn and nightcrawlers, but artificial flies and small spinners can also be used. Tackle is simple: a basic rod and reel, cane pole or a fly rod.

Lake trout (Photo credit: Wikipedia) New lake trout and splake regulations went into effect on June 14, 2012. The new regulations affect certain ports on Lake Huron. The daily possession limit is three (3) lake trout or splake and the minimum size limit is 15 inches. The possession season is from May 1 through September 30.  Click here  for additional information.  SOUTHEAST LOWER PENINSULA Lake Erie:  Walleye fishing remains steady in Ohio waters, east of Sputnik. Limits are possible in Michigan waters however they are not coming easy. The better spots in Michigan were 21 to 25 feet of water in Brest Bay, off Stony Point and along the Michigan-Ohio line. Buoys 1 and 2 off the River Raisin channel were also producing walleye. A few boats did well for perch in 22 feet of water off Fermi.
