Women age 18 and older can learn various outdoor skills during this one-day, hands-on event  Becoming An Outdoors-Woman (BOW), an educational program of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, will host a one-day event to teach women basic outdoor skills Saturday, June 15 at Shawnee State Lake in Topeka. BOW TOO (Taste of the Outdoors) will feature workshops in rifle shooting, archery, fishing, and camp cooking. Cost for the one-day event is $40, which includes class supplies and equipment, as well as lunch. Interested women are encouraged to apply early as the 2013 BOW TOO workshop is limited to 12 participants. Columbus, OH -- Ohio Division of Wildlife will host a Passport to Fishing instructors workshop on Friday March 22, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Wildlife District One, 1500 Dublin Road, Columbus Ohio.  The workshop is a free one-day instructor training program that qualifies individuals to become Division of Wildlife certified fishing instructors, similar to a hunter education instructor.  Pre-registration is required as seating is limited, participants will also be required to take part in a background check. By becoming a certified instructor, you will be able to help reconnect students with the outdoors.  Resources available include grants, equipment, brochures, and training. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program has a few openings available for a one-day winter workshop Jan. 26 at Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Darling, and a three-day workshop Feb. 22, 23 and 24 at Lake Metigoshe State Park, Bottineau. A darkhouse spearfishing class is offered for $50 at Upper Souris. Dog sledding, snowshoeing, winter survival, darkhouse spearfishing, and cross-country skiing are classes available at Lake Metigoshe. Cost of the workshop is $135. Women interested in the workshops are encouraged to  register online  at the Game and Fish website, gf.nd.gov. This workshop is designed for women with previous hiking or backpacking skills, or who are in good physical condition. Participants will hike a 15-mile portion of the trail south of Medora. Activity is strenuous due to rough terrain. The $30 fee includes lunch and dinner each day, plus group gear. Each participant must provide their own personal gear. The annual summer workshop is scheduled Aug. 10-12 at Lake Metigoshe State Park , Bottineau . Participants may take several programs including archery, canoeing, introduction to firearms, fly-fishing, kayaking, navigating outdoors, global positioning system, plant identification, introduction to photography, and tracking and trapping. The workshop will be Jan. 21-22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Participants must call 218-834-3855 to register by Thursday, Jan. 5. Workshop presenters will teach attendees how to string laces on pre-built wooden snowshoe frames and demonstrate how to use them. The $75 fee includes instruction, a snowshoe kit and other materials. Class size is limited to 12 people. The workshop is designed for ages 10 and up. Attendees should meet at the visitor center theater, bring a sack lunch, and register in advance so the appropriate quantities and sizes of snowshoe kits may be ordered.
