A fun way to learn how to use a GPS unit is by Geocaching. Geocaching is an outdoor activity that uses GPS coordinates to search for caches hidden by others. It is a treasure hunt, hike, and quality family time all rolled into one. Join us for an afternoon of fun as you find some hidden treasures at the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area. Image via Wikipedia Here’s a special opportunity… There’s still time to get in on the 2 nd Annual Discover Nature: Families Confluence Campout at Columbia Bottom next Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19!  This overnight event is going to be a blast for the whole family, and there are still openings available.  A chance to camp out by the confluence of North America’s two greatest rivers . . . learn to cook great campfire meals, explore the Columbia Bottom slough by canoe, sunset and sunrise hikes, geocaching with GPS, bike ride . . . all in one weekend!  Participants are asked to bring their own camping gear, but Columbia Bottom can offer tents to loan those who do not have their own.  The event is perfect for beginning campers, since knowledgeable staff will be on hand to help get everything up and going. Bring your kids (or grandkids) to see and learn about our amazing birds and their surroundings. Follow Big Bend Rd to Ries Rd and turn south.
