Come join the ODNR Division of Wildlife staff on Thursday, July 11, 2013 to learn more about one of the greatest perks of fishing: how to prepare a delicious fish dinner from your fresh catch! The workshop will cover details starting from stringer to dinner plate. Participants will get instruction on filleting and cooking techniques and an opportunity to do some hands-on filleting.  (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Anglers 15 years and younger encouraged to enjoy free, accessible fishing AKRON, OH – Occupying the grounds of the old Akron fish hatchery, the Division of Wildlife District Three youth fishing ponds are open to anglers 15 and under beginning Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 26, and continuing on the weekends through Labor Day. The youth fishing area is located at 912 Portage Lakes Drive in Akron.  Hours of operation are 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. every Saturday and Sunday as well as Memorial Day (Monday, May 28) and Labor Day (Monday, September 3). All young anglers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while in the youth area, but adults are not required to have a fishing license. Adults are not allowed to fish in the youth area, but may assist their young anglers. Picnic tables and restroom facilities are available. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills needed to cast flies followed by an actual opportunity to catch fish in the Youth Fishing Area. Interested participants can choose to register for one class from the following dates:  May 2nd, 16th, or 30th. All classes will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. An adult must accompany the participant for the program, but will not be able to participate in the class. Spaces are limited to 10 anglers per class so pre-registration is a must. Image via Wikipedia AKRON, OH – Sportsmen and women interested in pursuing  coyotes  are encouraged to attend a free, informational workshop provided by  Division of Wildlife  on Thursday, February 23 rd , 2012 in Akron.             Division of Wildlife biologists will cover such topics as life history, calling techniques (call types and setups), appropriate firearms and ammunition, field sets, and scouting. Weather permitting, attendees will have an option to follow biologists outside to view proper setups. Image via Wikipedia Attend the free training to beome a certified fishing instructor AKRON, OH -- Any adult, group, or conservation club who has a sincere interest in taking kids fishing should consider becoming a certified Passport to Fishing instructor, according to the Ohio Division of Wildlife. A free workshop is available on Thursday, February 16th, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will take place at Wildlife District Three, 912 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron. Passport to Fishing is a one-day instructor training program that qualifies individuals to become Division of Wildlife certified fishing instructors, similar to a hunter education instructor.  Passport to Fishing was developed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and adopted by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation.  Workshops teach volunteers the basics of fishing and how to run a four-station fishing program with a fishing event.
