Sponsors help Pure Michigan Hunt score big with new prize package

The hunting industry and sportspersons' groups are once again stepping up to support hunting and wildlife management in Michigan by sponsoring the sixth annual Pure Michigan Hunt. “We have the greatest sportspersons' groups and hunting industry right here in Michigan,” said Department of Natural Resources wildlife outreach technician Katie Keen. “It’s great that we can work together to help the resource, as well as making the dreams of three lucky hunters come true.” Every year, three winners are chosen by random drawing to win hunting licenses and gear. Each winner is awarded an elk, bear, spring and fall turkey, and antlerless deer license, as well as first pick opening morning at any managed waterfowl area. In addition to the licenses, winners receive prize packages donated by sportspersons' groups and the hunting industry that have totaled in value over $4,000 each. Pure Michigan Hunt prize package continues to grow

The previous Pure Michigan Hunt winners have won prize packages that most hunters could only dream about. This year’s prize package is no exception, and new sponsors continue to jump on board to show their support for hunting in Michigan. Michigan: Elk and Bear Application Period Ends June 1

The Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters to apply for their Michigan elk and bear hunting licenses now through June 1.  Hunters may apply online at www.michigan.gov/huntdrawings or at any retail license agent. There are 200 elk licenses available for the 2012 hunting season, divided evenly between hunts in August/September and December. The August/September hunt is designed to target elk outside the primary elk range before these elk move for the breeding season. The December hunt will occur in the core elk range and also allows additional harvest outside the core area. Only Michigan residents are eligible to apply for an elk license. This includes qualified military personnel and full-time students attending a Michigan college or university who reside in the state during the school year.
