Saturday Snowshoe Hikes Offered this Winter at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, Michigan

Get the whole family outdoors for some winter fun. P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon County is sponsoring Winter Snowshoe Hikes starting at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 14, 21, 28 and Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at the Gillette Visitor Center.
Snowshoes for the programs may be reserved from the Gillette Nature Association for a $5 fee per pair. Reservations are required to participate in the hikes, and snowshoes can be reserved at the time hike reservations are made. Space is limited. For details or reservations, call 231-798-3573.
P.J. Hoffmaster State Park is located at 6585 Lake Harbor Road in Muskegon. The snowshoe events are free; however, a Recreation Passport is required of all vehicles entering the park.
The Recreation Passport has replaced motor vehicle permits for entry into Michigan state parks, recreation areas and state-administered boating access fee sites. This new way to fund Michigan's outdoor recreation opportunities also helps to preserve state forest campgrounds, trails and historic and cultural sites in state parks, and provides park development grants to local communities.
Michigan residents can purchase the Recreation Passport ($10 for motor vehicles; $5 for motorcycles) by checking "YES" on their license plate renewal forms, or at any state park or recreation area.
Nonresident motor vehicles must still display a valid nonresident Recreation Passport ($29 annual; $8 daily) to enter a Michigan state park, recreation area or state-administered boating access fee site; these can be purchased at any state park or recreation area, or through the Michigan e-Store at www.michigan.gov/estore. Lake trout (Photo credit: Wikipedia) New lake trout and splake regulations went into effect on June 14, 2012. The new regulations affect certain ports on Lake Huron. The daily possession limit is three (3) lake trout or splake and the minimum size limit is 15 inches. The possession season is from May 1 through September 30.  Click here  for additional information.  SOUTHEAST LOWER PENINSULA Lake Erie:  Walleye fishing remains steady in Ohio waters, east of Sputnik. Limits are possible in Michigan waters however they are not coming easy. The better spots in Michigan were 21 to 25 feet of water in Brest Bay, off Stony Point and along the Michigan-Ohio line. Buoys 1 and 2 off the River Raisin channel were also producing walleye. A few boats did well for perch in 22 feet of water off Fermi.
