This year, DNR allowed 3 permits to be drawn for the herd that currently numbers in the hundreds state wide.  Other permits are/were offered via treaty with Indigenous tribes as well as one raffle through the RMEF.


An Old Bird

Sharp-Tailed Grouse News

Songbird Illnesses

Across several states including Wisconsin, songbirds have been experiencing some sort of disease. Recently, we reported on Indiana DNR guidance advising folks to suspend bird feeding. Rare Plant Found

A plant last documented in Wisconsin in the 1950's was recently spotted by a DNR biologist.  It's common name is Green Violet (see below).

was found this spring on a State Natural Area in west central Wisconsin
by DNR Conservation Biologist Ryan O’Connor.

Weekly Fishing Report Michigan Department of Natural Resources June 21, 2012

Lake trout (Photo credit: Wikipedia) New lake trout and splake regulations went into effect on June 14, 2012. The new regulations affect certain ports on Lake Huron. The daily possession limit is three (3) lake trout or splake and the minimum size limit is 15 inches. The possession season is from May 1 through September 30.  Click here  for additional information.  SOUTHEAST LOWER PENINSULA Lake Erie:  Walleye fishing remains steady in Ohio waters, east of Sputnik. Limits are possible in Michigan waters however they are not coming easy. The better spots in Michigan were 21 to 25 feet of water in Brest Bay, off Stony Point and along the Michigan-Ohio line. Buoys 1 and 2 off the River Raisin channel were also producing walleye. A few boats did well for perch in 22 feet of water off Fermi. Crawler harnesses worked best and the hot colors were purple, copper and peach. Detroit River:  Perch were caught around Humbug and Rat Island. Bass seas...
