Influential conservation group to host annual banquet to benefit sportsmen and wildlife in Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Station Chapter of Safari Club International will host its 29th Annual Convention Banquet and Fundraiser on Saturday, March 1 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
The Oklahoma Station of SCI is an influential organization that supports wildlife conservation and sportsmen. It uses its banquet and auction as a way to draw like-minded sportsmen together for an evening of entertainment, but also as its primary source of financing for a range of projects that benefit hunters and conservation. Attending the event is one way supporters can help with the group's cause to protect the freedom to hunt, educate others on the value of hunting for wildlife management, conserve wildlife and provide humanitarian services.
"In 2010 and 2012, our chapter's banquet program won best-in-class among all of SCI's largest chapters worldwide," said Hugh Bereman, president of the Oklahoma Station Chapter. "And the 2014 banquet will feature even more - over $500,000 worth of auction items, including many North American and worldwide big-game hunts, bird hunts, fishing trips, and many other hunts and non-hunting trips around the world. We'll also have several incredible guns, types of equipment, jewelry, sculptures and furs. Banquet tickets remain at reduced prices till Jan. 15. There will be many activities, and there will be great value and fun for everyone - all for the benefit of Oklahoma hunters and non-hunters."
General admission tickets are $75 when purchased prior to the event or $95 at the door. The evening features a live auction for items such as guided hunts and fishing trips in Oklahoma and around the globe, sporting goods such as selections of firearms and hunting gear, and other items like outdoor art and more. A growing list of auction items will be made available on the Oklahoma Station Chapter's website atoklahomastationsci.org.
The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m., but registration begins at 4:30 p.m., along with the silent auction and various games. Opportunity to visit with outfitters and vendors begins at 2:30 p.m. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is located at 1700 N.E. 63rd St. in Oklahoma City.
SCI membership is not required to participate in the banquet and raffles or to be eligible for door prizes. SCI officials say this will be an evening of good dining and support of the Oklahoma outdoors for all who attend.

The Oklahoma Station Chapter of Safari Club International supports and helps fund local conservation efforts that benefit sportsmen and wildlife in Oklahoma. The chapter is an important supporter of several programs conducted by the Wildlife Department, including the new Scholastic Shooting Sports Program that introduces safe firearms and shooting skills to youths through school curriculum, and the Hunters Against Hunger program, which coordinates the annual distribution of venison to needy families. The Chapter has been a sponsor of the Department's Oklahoma Wildlife Expo, which educates thousands of Oklahomans on the value of wildlife and the outdoors to quality of life in Oklahoma. SCI also has helped fund several habitat projects and conservation equipment purchases, such as an airboat used by the Wildlife Department on waterfowl surveys and wetland management tasks; several trailers for use in the Department's Shotgun Training Education Program (STEP); and the Department's Operation Game Thief trailer, which educates citizens about legal hunting.
