Learn the secrets of Steelhead Fishing at Tippy Dam offered by Michigan DNR

The Department of Natural Resources will present its Summer Run Steelhead Clinic Saturday, June 27, at Tippy Dam Recreation Area in Brethren, Michigan. The class starts at 10 a.m. and will run about nine to 10 hours.
Presented by the DNR’s Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center pro-staff, the class will cover various strategies and techniques for chasing Michigan’s “chrome torpedoes.” Participants are encouraged to bring their own gear, if possible, or – if new to steelheading – some equipment will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The classroom portion of the clinic will take place at the recreation area headquarters. In the afternoon the class will hit the water, where instructors will show attendees how to fish and what to look for.
The cost for the clinic is $25. All proceeds are reinvested into future programs at the Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center.

For those who are interested in attending but cannot make this date, the next steelhead clinic will be held the last weekend in March 2016.
Participants are encouraged to plan a camping trip and stay the weekend at Tippy Dam Recreation Area campground.
A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Tippy Dam Recreation Area.

A Recreation Passport grants vehicle access to any Michigan state park, boat launch, state forest campground or non-motorized state trailhead parking. Residents can purchase the Passport for just $11 ($5 for motorcycles) at the time of Michigan license plate renewal through Secretary of State. Forgot to check “YES” during renewal? Residents and nonresidents can purchase a Recreation Passport window sticker during regular business hours at state parks.
